talking to the tv

Weiner: “I’d like to thank our fans…”

Me: “YOU’RE WELCOME.”

Happy Birthday Matthew Weiner, you magnificent son of a bitch you.

Christopher Manley: The look that Pete gives Peggy is, ‘You could have been the one. I could have grown old with you.’

Matthew Weiner: I can’t even put into words what that look is. We wrote it in there that they look at each other and they acknowledge it. That she sees him with those guys and he sees her with those guys, but they’re both content where they are. I think that’s sort of part of it, too, right? They’re connected—they’ll be connected forever.

Our worst fears have not been realized. Cigars and scotch for all!

After a protracted standoff, AMC, Lionsgate andMad Men creator Matthew Weiner have reached an agreement for seasons five and six of the Emmy-winning drama.

Weiner, who will return as showrunner, has also signed a new long-term deal with Lionsgate. As a result of the negotiations, however, season five isn’t expected to air until next year.

“I want to thank all of our wonderful fans for their support,” Weiner said in a statement. “I also want to thank AMC and Lionsgate for agreeing to support the artistic freedom of myself, the cast and the crew so that we can continue to make the show exactly as we have from the beginning.  I’m excited to get started on the next chapter of our story.”

I TRUSTED YOU. I TRUSTED YOU WITH EVERY FIBER OF MY BEING AND MORE THAN I HAVE EVER TRUSTED ANY OTHER SHOWRUNNER IN MY ENTIRE LIFE, AND WHAT DID YOU DO? YOU TOOK MY UNWAVERING TRUST AND LAUGHED IN ITS FACE AND THEN CURB-STOMPED IT WITH YOUR HORRIBLE MAN FEET. WELL, I’VE LEARNED MY LESSON NOW. NEVER AGAIN, WEINER. NEVER AGAIN.

I’m not quite filled with the rage I expected to be, but I completely understand this. Next season better be the Joan and Peggy HBIC Power Hour or people are gonna go fucking nuts.

'Mad Men' Creator Matthew Weiner Reviews Season 4 and Previews the Finale ›

Anything you can tease at all about the finale?
Ah, no, I really can’t. I just hope that…what I really hope for for the finale is that people will see the finale and understand the journey that they went on for the season. They’ve been looking at it week by week, and they’ve sort of been on board with it, and I think they’ve enjoyed learning so much about Don and seeing him pushed to the end, and seeing him either rise to the occasion or, as you’re saying, not rise to the occasion. But hopefully they will see at the end what the journey that he’s been on.
