During the existence of the People’s Republic of Poland, the communist government didn’t encourage its people to reach out to Western standards.  Many imported luxuries such as popular films were advertised minimally, with Polish artists creating posters that rarely featured the faces of movie stars.  Many of them became true works of art, unique in their representation of popular culture and a reflection of Poland’s separation from the Western world.
