like a lot of pta’s films (and all before punch-drunk love, imo) this is very much a screenwriting exercise kept alive by fuckin’ great actors; it’s not bad. some scenes are very good, but some are not so much. you can see him getting deep into genre and then trying to find his way out with a clever camera, and he’s too young to do that yet. still, worth the watch.
