Honestly, the difference between LAWRENCE OF ARABIA in 35mm vs. 70mm is night and day.
They’re not even the same movie.
I’ve always dissuaded people from watching the film for the first time on DVD, but now I might just tell people to skip 35mm screenings, too.
The contrast is astonishing. In 70mm, the thing practically shimmers. Like every shot was dipped in gold. It was a religious experience. Every new desert vista was just like, LET ME DIE. So much flailing and internalized shrieking. And O’Toole. Sweet baby Jesus. That face in 70mm should be illegal.
