Our worst fears have not been realized. Cigars and scotch for all!
After a protracted standoff, AMC, Lionsgate andMad Men creator Matthew Weiner have reached an agreement for seasons five and six of the Emmy-winning drama.
Weiner, who will return as showrunner, has also signed a new long-term deal with Lionsgate. As a result of the negotiations, however, season five isn’t expected to air until next year.
“I want to thank all of our wonderful fans for their support,” Weiner said in a statement. “I also want to thank AMC and Lionsgate for agreeing to support the artistic freedom of myself, the cast and the crew so that we can continue to make the show exactly as we have from the beginning. I’m excited to get started on the next chapter of our story.”
“Young men make wars, and the virtues of war are the virtues of young men. Courage and hope for the future. Then old men make the peace. And the vices of peace are the vices of old men. Mistrust and caution. It must be so.”—Prince Feisal (Alec Guinness) in Lawrence of Arabia (wri. Robert Bolt, dir. David Lean)
“I was very intrigued by this screenplay [for Shutter Island],” said Leonardo DiCaprio. “It was very much a throwback to great detective genres of the past, whether it be Vertigo , Out of the Past , or Laura which were films he screened for us.” Martin Scorsese explained his selection of films. “I screened Laura for everyone just to get a reference to the nature of the detective,” said the director. “There are references to film noir, references to Psycho , to psychological thrillers, to horror films, to films that are basically composed of dreams. So I think ultimately that even if the surprise ending is known – although it has several endings in a way – hopefully it’s a picture you can watch repeatedly because of the behaviour of the characters.”
“Laisse tomber les filles” (English: “Leave the girls alone” i.e., “stop messing around with the girls”) is a French song composed by Serge Gainsbourg and originally performed by France Gall in 1964.
The message of the song can be summed up as “you’ll get yours”. A girl whose heart has been broken addresses the boy who has done the heart-breaking, warning him that if he doesn’t “leave the girls alone”, he’ll end up heart-broken himself.

“We will have high-definition, wide-screen television sets and a push-button dialing system to order the movie you want at the time you want it. You’ll not go to a video store but instead order a movie on demand and then pay for it. Videocassette tapes as we know them now will be obsolete both for showing prerecorded movies and for recording movies. People will record films on 8mm and will play them back using laser-disk/CD technology. I also am very, very excited by the fact that before long, alternative films will penetrate the entire country. Today seventy-five percent of the gross from a typical art film in America comes from as few as six –six– different theaters in six different cities. Ninety percent of the American motion-picture marketplace never shows art films. With this revolution in delivery and distribution, anyone, in any size town or hamlet, will see the movies he or she wants to see. It will be the same as it’s always been with books. You can be a hermit and still read any author you choose.”—Roger Ebert Predicting The Future Of Film In 1987 | /Film (via popculturebrain)
“I offered to have less money, to save the cast, and to leave [Mad Men] in the running time that it’s supposed to be. The harder that I’ve fought for the show, the more money that they’ve offered me.”—Matthew Weiner (via lina-lamont)
